Ian Pearce happy to take the strain to play for Lincoln

Lincoln City assistant manager Ian Pearce admits that his age makes it difficult for him to train full time.

The 36-year-old has been praised by manager Chris Sutton after starting the Imps' last two league games.

"I don't join in many of the sessions," admitted Pearce. "It's not ideal, but it's something I've got to get on with.

"I did all the pre-season running, but it was stuff that's designed to take pressure off the joints," he told BBC Radio Lincolnshire.

Pearce, who has now made 326 appearances in a 18-year pro career with Chelsea, Blackburn, West Ham, Fulham and Southampton, also admits that his management role takes more of a back seat when he plays.

"Once the game starts you are obviously concentrating on the game," he said. "You're a team member and getting the stick the other lads are getting."
