Bolton Wanderers surprised by Lincoln City support

Bolton v Lincoln
Bolton (white shirts) beat Lincoln 4-0 in the match at the Reebok Stadium

Bolton Wanderers say problems faced by Lincoln City supporters at their FA Cup tie were caused by an unexpectedly high number of away fans going to the game.

Hundreds of Imps fans missed the kick-off at the Reebok Stadium on Saturday because of delays at the turnstiles.

Bolton commercial director Gareth Moores told BBC Lincolnshire: "We were expecting an additional 400 supporters to pay at the turnstiles on the day.

"The big surprise was that almost 1500 made the trip without tickets."

The Imps also sold out their advance allocation of more than 1600 tickets for the game at the Premier League club's Reebok Stadium, which Bolton won 4-0.

Moores added: "It was a fantastic turnout with around 3,100 Lincoln fans braving what were tricky weather conditions, but it did mean it took a little longer to bring people into the stadium than anticipated.

"We're sorry for any fans who didn't get into the stadium as quickly as they would have liked, but it was simply the huge volume of Lincoln fans travelling without tickets which was far in excess of the number anticipated."
