Army to put Lincoln through paces

Lincoln City face tough opposition in their pre-season build up, with a three-day visit to the army's Infantry Training Centre at Catterick.

They will be put through their paces by army instructors ahead of Friday's friendly at Harrogate Town.

Major Felix Ralph told BBC Radio Lincolnshire: "It's not an assault course but they'll be going over rough ground, up hills and over obstacles."

Lincoln will also play an army side and be given a tour of the centre.

City are the first football team to visit Catterick, where many soldiers from Lincolnshire are trained.

Former Imps Matt Carmichael, Dave Cameron, Phil Stant and Simon Yeo all served in the army before embarking on careers in football.

Major Ralph said: "Hopefully the players will get to see what goes on here.

"They won't be in uniform or have boots on but they will be training in a battle environment."

And he admitted that the unofficial friendly with an Army XI had attracted a lot of interest at the garrison.

"Our football team will get to take on a professional side which they're excited about," he said. "And it gives everyone a release from training."
