Sunderland's Liddle is a Republic of Ireland Under-21 international

Leyton Orient have completed the signing of left-back Michael Liddle on a youth loan from Sunderland.

The 21-year-old's stay at Brisbane Road could potentially run until 24 December but either club can cancel the loan at any point after the first month.

Liddle has made only one senior appearance for the Black Cats but played 23 times during a loan spell at Carlisle two seasons ago.

He will provide cover for injured O's full-back Charlie Daniels.

Daniels is expected to miss the first few games of the season with a knee problem.

Orient boss Russell Slade told the club website: "I'm really pleased to have brought in a left-back in time for the start of the season.

"We know Charlie will be out for a few weeks, so it was important to sign a left-back and I'm sure Michael will do well for us."
