Pearson reinforces squad message

Nigel Pearson
It's very early in the season and you take games lightly at your peril

Leicester City manager Nigel Pearson has said his players must stay upbeat and focused and accept the importance of squad rotation this season.

Pearson made four changes to the side that beat Swansea for Wednesday's 2-1 Carling Cup victory at Macclesfield.

He told BBC Radio Leicester: "It's about having a strong squad ethic this year if we're going to be successful.

"And it's important that when players are called upon to contribute that they do it in a positive manner."

But Pearson said there is no danger of him fielding a weakened side in the League Cup.

"It's very early in the season and you take games lightly at your peril," he said. "It would be wrong of me not to take this competition seriously.

"It's an opportunity for players who didn't start the first game to make a case for themselves.

"It's a game that's important and I'd rather go into Saturday's [against Ipswich] game with two wins.

"We take every game seriously and it's important to try to get the season off to a solid start."
