Oakley has helped Leicester build up a commanding lead at the top
Leicester City captain Matt Oakley has been named League One's player of the month for January.
The 31-year-old midfielder, who has scored five goals this season, has said he is thrilled to win the award to ease the ribbing from team-mates.
"I've been taking a hell of a lot of stick from Andy King and Lloyd Dyer about them beating me in goals," he told BBC Radio Leicester.
"So it's nice to get the first award on the board from the midfield."
Colchester's Mark Yeates, Aaron Wilbraham of MK Dons and Scunthorpe's Gary Hooper were also shortlisted.
Oakley, whose form has helped the Foxes pick up maximum points in all but one of their five league games, continued: "The team's been doing well and I'm enjoying my football so it's nice to pick up an award.
"Hopefully we will get the points and the promotion we want and start building for the Championship next season."
