Dennis Wise is likely to appeal against Leicester City's decision to sack him.

Wise was dismissed by Leicester for gross misconduct following an incident on the club's pre-season tour of Finland which left Callum Davidson with a fractured cheekbone.

Wise, who has had the remaining two years of his contract terminated, has been in contact with the Professional Footballers' Association (PFA).

And deputy PFA chief executive Mark McGuire told Radio Five Live: "I think it's likely he will be appealing against the decision of the club.

"I think he was probably not expecting a decision of this severity."

He added: "It is the club's prerogative to terminate a contract.

"It surprises me a little bit because it is unusual for an incident between two players to result in a sanction such as this."
