Leeds United have accepted an undisclosed offer from Leicester City for goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel.

The Denmark international, 24, joined Leeds from Notts County in July 2010 and has since made 40 appearances.

Manager Simon Grayson told the club website: "We feel this is the right deal for the club.

"We spoke to Kasper's agent at the end of the season about a contract extension and it was apparent that it was going to be difficult."

He added: "Given the fact he has one year remaining on his contract we feel this is in the best interests of Leeds."

The former Manchester City player, who is the son of former Denmark and Manchester United keeper Peter Schmeichel, worked with current Leicester manager Sven Goran-Eriksson while at Meadow Lane.

Barring any last minute hitches in the deal, it leaves Leeds without a recognised first-choice keeper following the departure of Shane Higgs.
