Naylor has made 25 appearances for Ipswich this season

Leeds have completed the loan signing of Ipswich Town defender Richard Naylor after the paperwork was finalised.

The 31-year-old will be at Elland Road until 19 February and trained with his new team-mates on Thursday.

The Leeds-born player Naylor told the club website: "The gaffer at Ipswich rang me and told me about Leeds.

"I'm not sure he would have said anything if it hadn't been Leeds, but he knows about my background and what I think about the club."

"I was made up when he told me. It's been a long time since I've been up here and my family are in Ipswich now," he added.

"It was still a big decision - I think it took me 10 seconds. I've still got some family and friends up here, and they are as pleased as me."

Naylor began his career with Leeds City Schoolboys and for the club's Centre of Excellence before moving to Ipswich as a trainee.

He has gone onto make more than over 300 appearances for Ipswich and also had loan spells at Millwall and Barnsley in 2002.

The central defender was regular at Portman Road up until mid-December, and is hoping his move to Elland Road can help both him and Leeds' promotion push from League One.

"The main thing is helping us win some games and get up the table.

"We have to string some wins together and get up the league."

Leeds boss Simon Grayson said: "He's a good, strong centre-back and has got plenty of experience.

"He's played plenty of games in the Championship this season. He will bring a wealth of experience and he brings a lot that I believe will help."
