McAllister backs Johnson's move

Bradley Johnson
Johnson scored twice on his Brighton debut

Leeds United manager Gary McAllister believes Bradley Johnson had to leave Elland Road for the sake of his career.

Earlier this week the 21-year-old joined Brighton & Hove Albion on loan until January.

McAllister told BBC Radio Leeds: "The emergence of Fabian [Delph] has pushed Bradley further down the pecking order, he needs to go and play football."

Johnson made an immediate impact for Brighton on Tuesday, scoring twice in their 3-2 win over Leicester.

McAllister added: "I arrived here and there was an imbalance in the squad - we had far too many midfield players and an abundance of left-footed midfield players."

Johnson joined Leeds in January from Northampton and featured in their play-off final defeat to Doncaster in May but has started just once this season.
