Carver hopes to prove he is the right man for the job |
Leeds United's new caretaker boss John Carver says he wants the job on a permanent basis and has received the full backing of chairman Ken Bates. The 42-year-old has been given a chance to stake his claim after being appointed in the caretaker role this week following Kevin Blackwell's exit.
"The chairman never mentioned any time or games," Carver told BBC Radio Leeds.
"What he did say was the job's mine - 'get on with it and do what you need to do. You've got my backing 100%'."
Carver will be heartened by Bates' words which appear to back him as the favourite to land the job permanently.
"That was enough for me to go and do the job to the best of my ability and then we'll see what happens," he added.
Despite the endorsement, Claudio Ranieri, Dennis Wise and Alan Curbishley are also being touted as successors to Blackwell.
And Swindon chairman Willie Carson says he would allow Robins boss Wise to speak to Leeds - if Bates requests it.
Carson told the Western Daily Press newspaper: "We have not heard anything from Leeds.
"But of course I would say he can talk to them. That's common courtesy.
"Dennis has a contract and we do not want him to leave. But if a Premiership or Championship club comes along, let's hear what they have to say."
