Spring was on the verge of signing for Nottingham Forest |
Leeds have signed Luton midfielder Matthew Spring on a three-year deal. The 25-year-old playmaker passed a medical at Elland Road this week and joined his new team-mates for pre-season training on Thursday.
Spring was on his way to link up with former Luton boss Joe Kinnear at Nottingham Forest until Leeds came in with a late bid.
"It was a bit of a shock because I was lined up to go to Forest and I was pleased with that," he said.
"Then a couple of days later Leeds came in with an offer.
"I had a decision to make but as soon as I saw Elland Road and thought about the atmosphere of 35,000 fans at every home game my mind was made up.
"I feel great about it. It's all been a bit of a whirlwind but it's a great opportunity."
Spring is the latest in a series of signings by Leeds boss Kevin Blackwell.
Midfielder Jermaine Wright joined from Ipswich on Wednesday, while other acquisitions include Julian Joachim from Coventry, Paul Butler from Wolves and Michael Ricketts from Middlesbrough.
