Locke joined Kilmarnock from Bradford City in August 2002 |
Kilmarnock club captain Gary Locke has agreed a new two-year contract with the club after recovering from injury. The former Hearts midfielder had held off on contract discussions to consider his future after missing much of last season due to a knee injury.
Killie boss Jim Jefferies said: "We felt he might have to consider giving it up but it's great news for us - he's a great leader and a great player."
Locke, 31, will also continue coaching the Rugby Park club's youngsters.
Jefferies signed up Simon Ford, Grant Murray, Tim Clancy and Aime Koudou earlier in the week.
And team captain Garry Hay, who had a year left on his contract, has extended it to 2009 with an option for an extra year.
Scotland Under-20 star Jamie Adams has agreed a two-year deal.
However, Peter Leven and Graeme Smith will leave at the end of the season after failing to agree contract terms.
Jefferies was delighted with the news that the experienced Locke can still play a major role for the Ayrshire side.
"He's taken part in the back end of the season and he feels fit and well," added the manager.
"It's great to have him available because I think he's shown in the games he has played recently what a valuable player he is for the club.
"Gary has a lot of experience and his presence is great for the youngsters here."
