Boyd cash may keep Jefferies on
Kilmarnock manager Jim Jefferies
Kilmarnock chairman Michael Johnston hopes the sale of striker Kris Boyd can help keep management team Jim Jefferies and Billy Brown at the club.

"We have just offered Jim and Billy an extended contract with improved financial terms," said Johnston.

"They had to take pay cuts at the end of last season to help us out financially so this is only right.

"The transfer fee from Kris will generate a bit of headroom in the financial infrastructure of the club."

The Rugby Park club are deep in debt and it is unlikely that the transfer fee from Boyd's switch to Rangers will go towards buying new players.

But the savings on Boyd's wages may be used to bump up the pay of Jefferies and Brown - and could attract a player or two.

"Jim is the most experienced manager in the SPL and him and Billy have been in football for around 18 years and here at Kilmarnock coming up to four years," added Johnston.

"They know the Scottish game very well and the SPL back to front and have now been working with the same squad of players over three years. We are reaping those rewards.

"Everything has been ticking along nicely and I wouldn't want to see the management team change."
