Four-game ban for Ipswich striker Jon Stead

Ipswich striker John Stead has been banned for four games after the club's appeal against his Boxing Day sending-off at Crystal Palace failed.

The 26-year-old was given a straight red card for a foul on Freddie Sears.

Ipswich boss Roy Keane and Eagles counterpart Neil Warnock both said the incident only warranted a booking.

But a Football Association committee confirmed a statutory three-match ban, plus a further game because it felt the appeal had no prospect of success.

Stead will begin his suspension on Saturday when Ipswich face Blackpool in the FA Cup.
