Ipswich set for trip to Portugal

Roy Keane
Keane wants his squad in perfect condition when the new season starts

Ipswich Town have added a training camp in Portugal to their preparations for the new season.

Roy Keane's men fly out after their opening pre-season fixture against Irish side Finn Harps on 7 July.

Keane told the club website: "Things have moved on from the days when players would come back and run up hills for 10 miles.

"There is more of a scientific approach to pre-season now and I've moved with the time in that respect."

"But I've also got a bit of an old-school approach as well and sometimes it will come down to doing some running at the training ground.

"With players having seven or eight weeks off you do have to be careful with injuries so we will build up nicely," he said.

The Ipswich squad returns to training on Thursday.
