David Sheepshanks has stepped down as chairman of the club board at Ipswich Town after 14 years.
He will be replaced by owner Marcus Evans but will remain as a non-executive director of the board and as chairman of Ipswich Town plc.
"The club has entered a new era and I feel it is the right time for me to step down as chairman of the club board," he told the club website.
"My experience will be available to the club and the board at all times."
Owner Evans paid tribute to Sheepshanks' time at the helm.
"He has faced many challenges as chairman and assisted the club to great highs and equally never shirked responsibility when faced with tougher times," he stated.
"I would like to thank David for his help over the last 16 months since I became involved with the club and for his many years of dedicated service."
The Sheepshanks announcement comes in a period of change for the Championship club.
Businessman Evans completed his takeover of Ipswich at the end of 2007, with Sheepshanks switching to a non-executive role in July 2008.
In April, chief executive Derek Bowden left his job and former British Olympic Association chief executive Simon Clegg replaced him.
And the season ended with former Manchester United skipper and Sunderland manager Roy Keane being appointed following the dismissal of Jim Magilton on 22 April.
