Ipswich manager Jim Magilton has stormed out of a press conference and vented his anger about recent stories in the local media.

Magilton snapped after being questioned over a report suggesting he held a secret meeting with eight players.

During the press conference Magilton said: "I had a meeting behind closed doors. I have meetings, personal meetings with my players, it is my job.

"I had a group on Thursday because I had a special friend down."

The Town boss later continued talking to radio and TV journalists.

And he told BBC Suffolk: "I think the people of East Anglia want us to get promoted, I think my players want to get promoted but I think all the press are doing everything they can not for us to get promoted."

The East Anglian Daily Times reporter who wrote the article about the apparent 'secret meeting' is standing by his story.

Derek Davis said tempers flared after Magilton was asked whether he had anything to add to the report written earlier this week.

"He turned and pointed to me and just said that basically my sources were liars and I was being given duff information and these things weren't true.

"I was trying to say 'but you had the meeting' but he was in no mood by then and was just shouting over anybody," Davis added.

Ipswich Town were not immediately available for comment.
