Garvan pushing for regular place

Garvan started his second league game of the season against Reading

Midfielder Owen Garvan is pressing his claims to regain a regular starting place in Ipswich Town's first team.

The 20-year-old has started just two league games this season, but scored twice for the Republic of Ireland Under-21's against Portugal last week.

Garvan told BBC Radio Suffolk: "It's purely down to the manager's choice, I've just got to be patient.

"With the new owner and new money coming in there are more players, so there's more competition."

Garvan earned rave reviews for his international display.

But he says his first priority is to win a regular spot at Portman Road and become established at club level.

"There are a lot of people waiting to take your spot and you have to go out there and you have to give a performance, that's the same with everybody," he said.
