Murphy found his chances limited at Sunderland last season
Hull City have pulled out of a deal to sign Republic of Ireland striker Daryl Murphy from Sunderland after talks over personal terms broke down.
The two clubs had agreed a fee of about £1.5m for the 26-year-old, but could not agree terms with the player.
Murphy, who joined the Black Cats from Waterford in 2005, failed to score in 27 appearances last season.
Hull have also missed out on strikers Fraizer Campbell, Marc-Antoine Fortune and Michael Owen so far this summer.
Brown had a bid accepted for Campbell, who enjoyed a successful loan spell at the KC Stadium during the 2007/08 season, but the striker opted to leave Manchester United for Sunderland, while Owen moved to Manchester United from relegated Newcastle and Fortune agreed terms with Celtic.
Hull have also been linked with Cardiff's Ross McCormack and Fulham striker Bobby Zamora as they look to bolster a squad that only retained its Premier League status on the final day of last season.
Zamora, the former Tottenham and West Ham striker, looks the most likely target, but Hull boss Phil Brown will have to persuade his Fulham counterpart Roy Hodgson to release the 28-year-old.
"I can confirm that Hull are interested in him and have made a bid but I can't confirm that we're going to be prepared to let him go," Hodgson said from Fulham's pre-season tour of Australia.
"Bobby Zamora and Andrew Johnson have been excellent on the tour and if we lose him, he's going to be a hard man to replace, that's for sure.
"(So) that will be something that will be discussed when I get back.
"Obviously it's not been easy. I've been in touch all the time with the people at home, with the chief executive but with the time difference, it's not been as easy as it would be had I done the pre-season at home."
