Hull City manager Phil Brown has vowed to stand up to Geovanni after his reaction to being substituted in the 2-1 defeat to Blackburn on Sunday.
The Brazilian playmaker, along with parts of the home crowd, clearly disagreed with Brown's decision.
"He will never do that to me again. It's quite simple, I am the manager," Brown said.
"Geovanni is not bigger than this football club, it is as simple as that," he added.
The 29-year-old Geovanni started the season in sensational form, scoring spectacular goals in wins over Arsenal and Tottenham as Hull entered the upper reaches of the table.
But he has not scored since November, while Hull are three points clear of the relegation places, with the worst form of any top-flight side over their last eight matches.
"I don't think he was having a positive impact on the game, hence the first touch when he had an opportunity but didn't even get a shot off," Brown said.
"I thought the match-winner on Thursday night was Nicky Barmby and I thought it was an opportunity for him to come on in the same position. As I see it, it was a positive impact he had."
