Ternent slams 'schoolboy errors'

Huddersfield Town manager Stan Ternent has blamed simple defensive mistakes for Tuesday's 5-3 defeat at Hartlepool.

"In 30 years-plus as a manager, you look at it and think 'I can't believe what I'm seeing'.

"They're just schoolboy errors - basic fundamental errors to giving goals away, which if it wasn't so serious would be comical.

"At the other end the number of chances that we squandered was quite comical," he told BBC Radio Leeds

"I've just got to keep working away and pick them up for Saturday."

The Terriers took the lead three times during the first half, but conceded three goals in the final 10 minutes, and Ternent said that a complete overhaul of the way the team plays needs to be looked at.

"There are a lot of good things, but there are a lot of what I call on the football field criminal things - you just don't do them, but we do.

"I've got to change that culture at the club, because that's the reason the club have been where they've been for the past however length of time it is - in finishing midtable.

"We've got to get a bit of steel about us, and a bit more of a will and a desire - and that can only come from within.

"I'm sure we will because they're a fantastic set of lads who work extremely hard and I'm disappointed for them.

"Some of the things they're doing is really amateurish stuff, and whether nobody's taught them I'm not quite sure, but they're going to have to learn, and learn quickly, because it's a game we should have won - there's no question in my mind about that."
