Histon defender Matt Langston has said he is determined to secure a regular centre-back role this season.
Langston suffered a series of setbacks last term that led to an operation on his groin in April but he has insisted his is now fit to start the new season.
The 27-year-old told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire: "I'm still doing a little bit of rehab but I'm 100% fit and glad to be so.
"It's a new start to the season and I want to prove myself again."
Langston has partnered captain Matt Mitchel-King in a number of pre-season friendlies and is hoping to keep his place once the season starts.
But he said: "You never know [if you'll be picked] until the day of the game, I've just tried to perform my best through pre-season and hopefully that will get me a starting spot in Steve Fallon's 11.
"I'm not taking anything for granted yet, until he names the team and I know I'm there, I'll try my utmost in training."
And Langston hopes his scoring record from set-pieces will help him secure a place.
He added: "It's a big part of my game, John Beck and Steve Fallon looked at me at [previous club] Cambridge City and thought that was a point I could improve on.
"I got five goals last year and about the same the year before, I'm looking to get a few more this year as well."
