Simpson in running for Hibs job
Paul Simpson
Simpson was sacked by Preston in November
Former Carlisle United and Preston North End manager Paul Simpson has emerged as a strong candidate for the vacancy with Hibernian.

The 41-year-old has already been interviewed by the Scottish Premier League club, BBC Sport understands.

Former Hibs striker Mixu Paatelainen, presently managing Finnish club Turun Palloseura, has also been interviewed.

And Tommy Craig, who has been caretaker since the departure of John Collins, is also in the running.

606: DEBATE

Simpson, who is believed to have paid his own way in to St Mirren Park to watch Hibs in action on Saturday, was sacked by Preston in November after a poor start to their Championship campaign in England.

He had succeeded Billy Davies in the position after winning two successive promotions with Carlisle.

Simpson had a long career as a player, turning out for the likes of Manchester City, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Derby.
