John Collins is pleased to have signed Thierry Gatheussi

The 25-year-old arrives from French side FC Sete, having started his career at Montpellier.

"He can play on either the left or right side of defence and has in fact played in central defence," manager JOhn Collins told the club website.

"He gives us a few more options in that area. We are delighted to have him at the club."

Gatheussi, who has also played for Cannes, joined Hibs on their pre-season training camp in Austria.

He took part in a friendly match with SV Vocklabruck and also featured in a game against Brechin City.

Last week, Collins announced that a deal looked unlikely, with the player having returned to France and stalling on a response to the offer from Easter Road.

Gatheussi, who won his only international cap in 2004, will be in the squad for Wednesday's friendly with Bolton, with Middlesbrough visiting Edinburgh on Saturday.

However, winger Alan O'Brien is likely to miss both games, with the new recruit from Newcastle damaging an ankle in training.

"At first we thought it was going to be bad and he went for a precautionary X-ray," Collins told the Evening News.

"That came back negative which was good news and the healing so far has been good.

"He's definitely out for Wednesday and while you never know, he's doubtful for Middlesbrough.

"We'll wait and see how things develop but we won't be taking any risks ahead of the first match against Hearts at Tynecastle."
