Makaba-Makalamby joined Chelsea from PSV Eindhoven in 2003 |
Hibernian have completed the signing of giant Belgian goalkeeper Yves Makaba-Makalamby from Chelsea. The 21-year-old, who had a trial at Easter Road in January, has signed a three-year deal with the SPL side.
"Yves is a young signing for us but he comes with tremendous potential," said Hibs manager John Collins.
"He is a good height for a goalkeeper at 6ft 5in and is strong and athletic. He has all the attributes you could expect of a player in that position."
Makaba-Makalamby failed to make an appearance for Chelsea but was recalled from his trial at Hibs in January after injuries to Petr Cech and Carlo Cudicini.
Collins added: "We were all very impressed by Yves when he came to Easter Road in January and had hoped he might join us at that point.
"However, Chelsea required him to return as back-up and we had to be patient.
"It says much for his qualities that he nearly played in the Champions League, and I have little doubt that, had he been called upon to do so, he would have done himself justice.
"Yves will continue to develop at our club and have every opportunity to reach his full potential, something that I am confident he will achieve."
