Hereford United manager Trewick wants better defending

Hereford United manager John Trewick has said the Bulls must learn to defend set-pieces.

Trewick saw his side concede two goals from corners in the 3-1 defeat at local rivals Shrewsbury on Saturday.

"They were more aggressive and determined in those key areas and we've suffered from it," he told BBC Hereford and Worcester.

Hereford, who lie 18th in League Two, will next face Aldershot at home on Tuesday, 16 February.

Despite their poor defending, Trewick was upbeat about his side's performance.

"Set-pieces were the difference, although I thought in the second-half we took the game to them for maybe 20 to 25 minutes. Had we got a goal at that time, Marc Pugh had a chance, then who knows."

He added: "But they got a third with another set-piece which was disappointing and the game was just about finished then.

"There was a little flurry of corners which put us under a bit of pressure and they managed to force in a couple of goals. You have to give credit to them, the delivery was good and the way they attacked the ball was good and I'm sure they will think it's a job well done."

Trewick added that he felt the Bulls could have had a penalty.

"It looked like a hand-ball. I'm a long, long way from the incident but it certainly looked like his hands were in a raised position. It's little things like that that change matches.

"They've got the breaks, we haven't. Key incidents like that turn matches."

The Bulls boss also praised the side's travelling supporters, with around 600 fans making the trip to Shrewsbury.

"I thought it was a good atmosphere, plenty of noise. I thought we gave people something to shout about."
