Wilson anger at penalty decision

Hartlepool boss Danny Wilson has criticised referee Dean Whitestone for his performance during Saturday's 3-1 defeat at Tranmere Rovers.

Defender Jamie McCunnie was sent off during the game and Wilson was left fuming with Whitestone's judgement.

"I'm disappointed with the referee's performance today," he told BBC Tees.

"Throughout the game the decisions weighed far more on the home side and all we wanted was to get a fair crack of the whip when it came to decisions."

Other players should have stepped up to the plate

Hartlepool United boss Danny Wilson on the missed penalty

To cap off a miserable day, on-loan Middlesbrough striker Tom Craddock missed a penalty but Wilson was reluctant to blame the player for the result.

"I'm not going to knock Tom for it because he wanted to take the penalty," he said.

"My only criticism is that he's just come on the pitch and is not really warmed enough to take the penalty and other players should have stepped up to the plate."
