Successful op for Accies' Gibson

Hamilton defender James Gibson
Gibson had become a regular in the side at the end of last season

Hamilton Accies say that defender James Gibson's operation to repair cruciate knee ligament damage suffered in August has been successful.

"Gibby's damage was nowhere as near as severe as that suffered by team-mate Derek Lyle," said a website statement about the 20-year-old.

"But he is still expected to miss the remainder of the season.

"The surgeon was pleased with the operation and the strength of James' new ligament."

Gibson, who had become a regular starter for Hamilton at the end of the last Scottish Premier League season, has not made an appearance this term after suffering his injury while training.

The following month, Lyle collapsed after his studs stuck in the turf with less than a minute played of Accies' match against Falkirk.

Striker Lyle underwent his surgery shortly after the incident.
