Former Toulouse striker Akpa Akpro joined Grimsby in 2008

Grimsby Town striker Jean-Louis Akpa Akpro has left the club after turning down a new contract.

The 25-year-old French-born Ivorian is now expected to join a League One club, believed to be promoted Rochdale.

Akpa Akpro scored eight goals in 60 appearances for the Mariners, including five in their relegation campaign.

Boss Neil Woods said: "After talking to him it seems a lot of foreign players have the mentality going out of the league is going to amateur football."

He added: "Jean has done it in the correct manner in the correct way. We made a very good offer to him but it seems that he is heading elsewhere."
