Grimsby Town boss Mike Newell has been backed to succeed by former long-serving player Dave Boylen.
Boylen, who started with Grimsby in the late 1960s, has admired the way Newell has changed the culture of the club.
He told BBC Look North: "I think he's gone in there and addressed the situation. He's tried his best to put them right."
His comments came after the Mariners won their first home game of the season against Shrewsbury Town on Saturday.
Boylen continued: "This guy is very alert about everything.
"He takes an interest in the youngest player up to the most seasoned player and he takes an interest in his staff."
Boylen was also full of praise for Newell's scouting policy.
"He's out every night watching games you've never heard of all over the country," the former star added.
