Grimsby manager refuses to panic

Mike Newell
Newell took control of the Mariners for the first time against Wycombe

Grimsby boss Mike Newell has asked for the club's fans to be patient as he attempts to turn their season around.

Town, who are 21st in League Two, remain the only side in the division yet to win a game, despite having already played 10 matches.

Newell told BBC Radio Humberside: "You can sense a hunger and the supporters are not happy.

"You can't explain confidence and with the run of results it takes a yard off you mentally and physically."

But Newell added: "There's promising signs - plenty to work with."

I'll be trying to improve the squad and improve the team but first of all you must give these lads an opportunity

Mike Newell
Newell took charge of the Mariners for the first time against Wycombe at Blundell Park on Saturday and watched his side go a goal ahead, after two minutes, before the visitors equalised in the last minute of the game.

The result was a fair one according to Newell, who is refusing to push the panic button early in his managerial reign.

He added: "There's no rush and I'll be trying to improve the squad and improve the team but first of all you must give these lads an opportunity."
