Newey says the Grimsby players must shoulder all the responsibility
Grimsby Town defender Tom Newey believes it is down to the players to turn the club's season around.
The Mariners are without a win in 21 league games and are searching for a new manager to replace Alan Buckley, who was sacked earlier this month.
But Newey told BBC Look North their form was not down to the management.
"We're very early in the season but we've got to improve. It's down to us as players and what we're doing is not good enough," he said.
Grimsby, who hope to name their new boss shortly, have yet to win a league game this season and would be bottom of the entire Football League but for Rotherham, Luton and Bournemouth being hit by points deductions.
Newey added: "When you get on a bad run as we have been, it's sometimes very hard. But we've definitely got to do better than we have been and hopefully that can start to happen on Saturday [away to Rotherham]."
