Shreeves became Grays' director of football in June

Grays Athletic director of football Peter Shreeves will take charge for Saturday's trip to Rushden & Diamonds.

The club have yet to appoint a new manager after placing Gary Phillips on "gardening leave", but expect to make an announcement by next Wednesday.

Among the names linked with the post are Steve Lomas, Julian Dicks, Jimmy Quinn and Steve Sedgley.

Whoever is handed the job will become the Blue Square Premier club's 14th manager in the past three years.

The club have also placed Phillips' assistants Alan Lewer and John Yems, all of whom were in the running for the manager's job, on gardening leave.
