Andy Hessenthaler not after full-back for Gillingham

Barry Fuller
Fuller needed knee surgery to save his career

Gillingham have no plans to sign a right-back despite Barry Fuller's season-ending knee injury.

Matt Fish, 22, will deputise for Fuller in his first season since moving from Dover, with 18-year-old Jack Evans the only back-up to him.

Boss Andy Hessenthaler said: "I wouldn't hesitate if we got a problem with Fishy. Jack could handle it. He can play in a number of positions.

"He can play left-back, right-back or in midfield."

He added: "I've seen him at right back and he's a very good right-back. He's a strong boy."

Evans came on for his first taste of League football when he came on as a substitute in the 5-2 win at Torquay on Saturday, and then started Monday night's Kent Senior Cup tie away to Welling, which the Gills lost 2-1.
