Gillingham stay upbeat despite winless start to season
Fuller has recently recovered from a knee injury
Gillingham skipper Barry Fuller has said his side's winless start to the season has been down to bad luck and not poor performances.
The Gills have drawn three and lost one of their league games, while they have also been knocked out of the Carling Cup and the Johnstone's Paint Trophy.
"When you don't pick up a win obviously it dwells and you get a bit agitated," Fuller told BBC Radio Kent.
"We just haven't got that rub of the green at the moment in front of goal."
Speaking after their defeat by Southend on penalties in the Trophy on Tuesday night, Fuller said a league win is more important to them right now.
"We aren't going to get too disheartened about because it isn't a league game," he said.
"If it was the FA Cup maybe you'd be a bit more disappointed but we're going to pick ourselves up because there's a more important game on Saturday - a league game."
The Gills captain believes that elusive first win is imminent.
"If you look at the performances we put in this year we've played really well in all the games and it's frustrating because we're creating so many chances," said Fuller.
"But I feel sorry for the team that are probably going to get a pummelling sooner or later and hopefully that will come on Saturday."
Assistant boss Ian Hendon is equally optimistic that they will turn things around soon.
Lady luck's not shining on us at the moment but if we keep putting in those performances then we'll be all right
Gillingham assistant manager Ian Hendon
"Any win is good for morale but we've just got to keep the lads' heads up," he said.
"We're positive because it was another good away performance - we just didn't get the rub of the green.
"Lady luck's not shining on us at the moment but if we keep putting in those performances then we'll be all right.
"The performance was there, the work rate is there and if they keep putting in the shifts that they are at the moment the results will turn that's for sure
"God help who is on the end of it when we do get it."
Gillingham's next game is away at Bury on Saturday - where they will not only be looking for their first win of the campaign but also their first victory away from Priestfield in 15 months.
BBC Radio Kent will have full match commentary of Bury v Gillingham on Saturday Sport.
