Jackman was released by former Gills boss Ronnie Jepson |
Gillingham boss Mark Stimson has described the club's decision to release Danny Jackman as "embarrassing" after he came back to haunt them. The 25-year-old midfielder, who left Priestfield last summer, was Northampton's man-of-the-match in the 4-0 drubbing of the Gills on Saturday.
"I told the chairman that to let him go for nothing is amazing," said Stimson.
"I've seen the kid play a couple of times, and he's played against us and he looks a hell of a player."
He added: "He's my type of player, he's got a great enthusiasm, he gets around the pitch, he's not the biggest but he competes in both boxes.
"It's amazing and embarrassing that he was allowed to leave."
Jackman left the Gills in May 2007 on a Bosman-style free transfer, after rejecting the offer of a contract from former manager Ronnie Jepson.
The latest defeat leaves the Kent club in the relegation mire and without a win in seven games.
