Blue Square Bet Premier side Gateshead have signed left-back Michael Liddle from Premier League neighbours Sunderland on a 28-day loan.
Liddle, 21, has made one substitute appearance for the Wearsiders' first team - in last season's FA Cup third round defeat of Barrow.
The defender joined League One side Leyton Orient in August 2010, but made only one start due to injury.
He also played 22 games for Carlisle United during the 2009-10 season.
London-born Liddle has five Republic of Ireland Under-21 caps, the last of which came against Germany Under-21s in February 2009.
