Gateshead have signed Southport midfielder Ashley Winn on loan until January, with the deal to be made permanent then for £2,500.

Teessider Winn, 24, will step up to full-time training on his return to the North East.

"I'm happy to be at Gateshead and playing professional football again," Winn told the Gateshead website.

"I'd like to think I'll be up to the task as I need to be playing full-time football at this stage of my career."

Bogie added: "He is a player who is always difficult to play against.

"He caught the eye for Southport whenever we played them and he is a versatile player.

Gateshead boss Ian Bogie

"I see him more as a central midfielder but he's played a lot of his football at Southport on the right side.

"He is a player with a lot of energy, a good box-to-box player and the eye for the occasional goal as well, so he will be a useful addition to the squad."

Having began his professional career with Oldham Athletic, Stockton-on-Tees-born Winn has gone on to play for divisional rivals York, Barrow and Southport as well as spells with Stalybridge Celtic.

Meanwhile reserve goalkeeper Mark Cook was released from his short-term deal on Friday and allowed to sign for Blue Square Bet North club Harrogate Town.
