Gateshead striker Shaw disappointed by Daryl Clare exit
Shaw made his debut for Sheffield Wednesday in March 2003
Gateshead striker Jon Shaw has revealed his disappointment after former strike partner Daryl Clare left the club to join Cambridge United on Wednesday.
The duo played together at Gateshead, and at Mansfield last season and Shaw was disappointed not to link up again.
"I was looking forward to it, we've had productive spells together before," Shaw told BBC Newcastle.
"Unfortunately he's gone but I'm sure we've got enough quality here to fire us up the league this season."
The Tynesiders have brought in former Northwich Victoria striker Jonny Allan, as well as winger Craig Nelthorpe from beaten Blue Square Bet Premier play-off finalists York City to bolster their forward ranks.
Meanwhile Shaw's arrival at the International Stadium coincides with the club's move to full-time status under boss Ian Bogie.
Chairman Graham Wood has bankrolled the move, and the former Sheffield Wednesday striker admitted the decision helped influence his return after last season's short term spell.
"It's a big step for any club and it's an important step if you want to further the club,"
"I can't fault the club for the way they've gone about it and the way they are going to do it.
"It's hopefully going to be a good season and we've brought in some good players and I can't wait."
Shaw has made more than 200 league appearances for nine clubs since his professional debut for Sheffield Wednesday in January 2003.
