Saha strike cheers Fulham
Fulham striker Steed Malbranque
Steed Malbranque hit the bar for Fulham
Fulham 1-0 FC Aegaleo

A late goal from Louis Saha gave Fulham a slender first leg lead in their third round Intertoto Cup tie against FC Aegaleo.

Saha struck with a neat shot on the turn from Barry Hayles' right-wing cross with 12 minutes to play, ensuring that the Londoners bade farewell to Craven Cottage with a win.

Fulham dominated the final game at the ground before it undergoes a 70m revamp.

But were frustrated by their Greek opponents until the Frenchman's finish.

  Key moments
12 mins: Malbranque's volley hits the bar
21 mins: Zat Knight heads just wide
54 mins: Chloros is denied by Van der Sar
77 mins: Saha scores with a shot on the turn

Prior to that, Jean Tigana's team had come no closer to a goal than Steed Malbranque's volley against the crossbar in the 12th minute.

Fulham's other best efforts came from defenders.

Zat Knight headed wide from John Harley's free-kick in the 21st minute.

And Abdeslam Ouaddou flashed a header narrowly wide at a near post corner just after the half-hour.

Tigana rang the changes at half-time, bringing on Saha for the ineffective Facundo Sava.

The game livened up marginally but after Boa Morte wasted a good chance with a tame shot, Aegaleo almost went in front.

Striker John Chloros slipped his marker and fired in a fierce shot that Edwin van der Sar kept out with a fine reaction save.

The arrival of Hayles midway through the half gave Fulham four forwards and weight of numbers paid off in the 78th minute when the two substitutes combined.

Saha converted Hayles' cross from inside the box to raise the Londoners' hopes of reaching the Intertoto Cup semi-finals.
