Fowler played 11 games for Rovers this season before his knee injury

Forest Green have confirmed that midfielder Lee Fowler has left the club after failing to agree a new deal.

The 27-year-old was on a month-to-month contract, but had been out with a knee ligament injury since early October.

"The manager, David Hockaday, and Lee had a number of amicable discussions in the past few days with regards contracts," chairman Dale Vince said.

"The manager felt he was unable to offer the contract that Lee was looking for - at this moment in time."

Fowler, who admitted around the time of his injury to having a problem with alcohol, was believed to want a longer term deal until the end of the season.
