Gillingham have tabled an offer for Forest Green striker Stuart Fleetwood. Rovers are braced for a flood of interest in the 30-goal striker in the transfer window and Gillingham are the first club to move for the 21-year-old.
"We are interested in signing Stuart and have made a second offer. We'll have to see what develops now," confirmed Gills boss Mark Stimson.
Gillingham previously tried to take Fleetwood on loan in November but could face competition for the Welshman.
The Kent club's bid is believed to be "significantly higher" than the 100,000 Cheltenham offered in November.
Rovers manager Jim Harvey has also denied speculation linking Fleetwood's fellow forward Mark Beesley with a move to Cambridge United.
The 27-year has scored 12 goals this term and Harvey said: "I've spoken to Mark about a contract and he'd be happy to sign again.
"I wouldn't anticipate too much movement in January."
