Exeter snap up midfielder Burnell

Burnell has been captain at Northampton and Bristol City

Exeter City have signed former Oxford United captain and midfielder Joe Burnell on a free transfer.

The 28-year-old left the Kassam Stadium at the start of July after making 28 appearances for the U's last season.

Burnell has also played for Wycombe, Northampton and Bristol City, after coming through the youth system at Ashton Gate.

He was told in April by Oxford boss Chris Wilder that he had no future at the Blue Square Premier club.

Burnell joins fellow new signings Scott Golbourne and Barry Corr at Exeter.

Golborne, 21, is a former England youth international who plays at left-back and was at Reading last season.

Irish striker Corr was released by Swindon Town at the end of last season.
