Everton are expected to confirm the signing of 22-year-old American midfielder Anton Peterlin this week.
Ventura County Fusion player Peterlin impressed Everton's coaching staff during a 10-day trail at Finch Farm earlier this year.
Peterlin told the Ventura County Star newspaper: "It's cliché to say, but it really is dream come true."
It is believed Peterlin was recommended to Everton manager David Moyes by Fusion coach Graham Smith.
Peterlin admitted he received a bit of a footballing culture shock on Merseyside: "It was different than American training.
"It was very directed at pressure, pressure, pressure. Very concentrated. Very organised. We did some technical work.
"I enjoyed the level on which they played. I thought I played pretty well throughout."
David Moyes was full of praise for the holding-midfielder in a statement released by the Fusion, who play in the fourth-tier of American soccer.
"Anton really impressed myself and the coaching staff with his attitude and undoubted ability.
"We are therefore delighted to give him the chance to establish a professional career here at Everton."
