Everton must keep Lescott - Sharp

Former Everton striker Graeme Sharp believes the Blues must keep central defender Joleon Lescott.

The 26-year-old England international, who can also play at left-back, is believed to be the subject of interest from Manchester City.

"I wouldn't like to see Joleon go, especially with the Phil Jagielka injury," he told BBC Radio Merseyside.

"It's important that we keep our better players and Joleon certainly comes into that category."

Manchester City striker Jo has been linked with another season-long loan move to Goodison Park, following a successful stint at the club between January and May.

At this stage it is believed that deal is not dependant on Lescott moving in the opposite direction.

Sharp is keen for the Blues to strengthen their squad in order to maintain the momentum, which saw them finish fifth in the Premier League and reach the FA Cup Final last season.

"Our squad is threadbare at the moment, we always said that last year," said Sharp.

"They did remarkably well last year to overcome that but every team needs to strengthen in the summer.

"There's always the old adage that you always strengthen when you're strong and we were strong last year so we need to strengthen."
