Having made only 11 appearances for the Toffees because of injury, the player made headlines last week with claims his drinks were spiked on a night out.

He was then fined by the club for drinking 48 hours before a match, and has also had his house burgled.

"I feel 200% - you are going to see the best of me," he told Everton's website.

Van der Meyde spent time in hospital with breathing difficulties after the night out in which he said his drinks were spiked.

But the Holland international returned to action as a substitute in Everton's 1-0 defeat in their friendly against Athletic Bilbao on Saturday.

"It was good to finally get back on the pitch and back to football - it has been a long time," said the 26-year-old.

"I had a good feeling (on Saturday) and I hope to take it to the next game.

"I felt my normal self in the two days before the game. Before that I was still a bit dizzy.

"I cannot wait to start and I am happy the season starts next week so we can get back into a rhythm and a routine.

"That is what I am used to and it is nice to have that back again, playing and training every week."

The burglary will have been a setback for Van der Meyde, whose dog Mac was also taken in the raid.
