Van der Meyde has made just 11 appearances to date for Everton

The 26-year-old was hospitalised on Monday with breathing difficulties and police are investigating claims his drink was spiked.

Toffees boss David Moyes told the club's website: "I have spoken with Andy and he is sorry for what happened.

"He will be fined because he should not have been out but that is the end of the matter."

Van der Meyde is now out of Arrowe Park Hospital.

Detectives said their investigations into the incident are continuing and are are awaiting the results of a blood test.

Van der Meyde, who has suffered a number of injury problems, signed for Everton last August but has made just 11 appearances to date.
