Ebbsfleet United manager Liam Daish says that he is hopeful of signing a centre-half on loan, believed to be a Football League player.
The loss of club captain Paul Lorraine has left the Fleet looking light in defence, but Daish hopes to rectify this for their game on Saturday week.
Daish told BBC Radio Kent: "We need strength in that department. It doesn't take an expert to see that.
"I'm hopeful we'll have someone in the next week."
The loan signing will add much needed depth at the back with Lorraine out for an unspecified amount of time due to a wrist injury.
On the club captain, Daish stated: "We'll see what the consultant says. Hopefully we'll have an idea of a timescale.
"We're not in a position to have him sat in the stands because he is a massive player for us.
"He'll be involved as soon as he physically can."
