Stephen Kenny guided Derry City to this season's Uefa Cup

The 35-year-old Derry City boss is due to take over from current caretaker manager Craig Robertson for the game against Dundee United on 18 November.

Dunfermline chairman John Yorkston told the club's website: "Stephen has got a great track record and his achievements to date have been exceptional.

"We were greatly impressed by his attitude and enthusiasm throughout the assessment process."

Kenny described leaving his job at Derry as "a massive wrench".

Dunfermline slumped to a 3-0 defeat at home to Falkirk on Saturday under caretaker boss Robertson, who had taken on the role after Jim Leishman left the dug-out to revert to his role as director of football last month.

And they slipped to the bottom of the table after Dundee United's victory over Rangers on Monday.

Derry City, who knocked Gretna out of this season's Uefa Cup, are currently second in the Eircom League Premier Division.

Under Kenny, Derry City also recorded a notable victory IFK Gothenburg in the Uefa Cup.

Kenny began his managerial career at Longford Town in 1999, guiding them to promotion to the top flight in the Republic of Ireland in his first season.

He won the Irish league title in 2003 with Bohemians.
